When a customer came to Blackwood Dyno Tune & Service frustrated by their Hyundai’s intermittent loss of power during overtaking, we were ready to help. The issue had been causing anxiety while driving on freeways, particularly when trying to overtake larger vehicles. At times, the engine would lose power altogether, and the engine light would illuminate, leaving the driver with no choice but to pull over. Our experienced team quickly got to work diagnosing and resolving the problem.
Our diagnostic process began by connecting the Hyundai to our specialised equipment, where we uncovered two fault codes: P2562 and P2565. Both pointed to a boost control position malfunction. This led us to carry out a thorough inspection of the vehicle’s components, focusing on the turbocharger system.
Upon closer examination, we found that the waste gate controller pivot had sustained significant wear and tear. This part plays a crucial role in managing the turbocharger’s boost pressure, and its degradation had been causing the vehicle’s power loss. Considering the vehicle had already travelled 255,000 kilometres, it was clear that the turbocharger and manifold unit required replacement.
To restore the Hyundai’s performance, we replaced the worn turbocharger and manifold unit with a high-quality new assembly. This replacement ensured the vehicle’s turbocharger system could operate effectively, providing consistent boost pressure and eliminating the intermittent power loss.
With the new components installed, we carried out extensive testing to confirm that the issue was fully resolved. The engine responded as it should, delivering reliable power even during demanding overtaking situations.
